ごきげんよう。 Welcome to the Kawaii Japanese Forums. Please excuse the English. This post is intended to make the purpose of these forums clear. You can think of it as the Forum's genkan where you take off your English shoes. There are many places on the Internet where Japanese learners can talk about Japanese. In English. What there does not seem to be are safe and gentle places where learners can actually use their Japanese. We believe that Japanese is a means of communication. One of the most important aspects of learning it is using it. Not practising it, using it. Communicating with it. If possible, having relationships in which Japanese is the sole means of communication. This is psychologically very important. It helps learning in various measurable ways, but it is also important on a deeper level. Language only becomes ours when it is a genuine means of communication. So currently these forums are an experiment based on some of the ideas we put forward on Kawaii Japanese. It is a place where you can start to use your Japanese (or another place to use it if you already are). For those who are nervous about using the language "live", outside a classroom or similar setting, we hope to create a gentle, nurturing environment where your Japanese self can grow. Please come in and take tea with us. 上がって ください。
